We see American Coot at least 21 times a year. Between 1996 and 2010, we've seen American Coot at 116 different locations.

Adult Coots are very familiar to us in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the chicks with their fuzzy orange hairdos are still fascinating to watch. We also now watch for the draconian way the parents drive off their weaker offspring.
